A Deeper Map: Ancient Legacy Revealed
A Deeper Map is a unique public art project presented through a map-based mobile app. The program aims to enlighten current residents of the lower Salt River Valley, the foundation of today's metro Phoenix area, about the ancient heritage that influenced the modern desert metropolis. By combining contemporary maps with archaeological insights of ancient canal paths and agricultural fields, the app provides a compelling visual narrative.
The app's central concept features a modern map overlay that can be interactively slid away to reveal a fixed prehistoric map beneath. Offering three viewing modes - opaque, translucent, and satellite - users can explore the juxtaposition of ancient and modern landscapes, gaining a deeper understanding of how their surroundings have evolved through time.
